If you have ever been inside my home studio or have seen the blog posts in which I show what my home studio/office looks like, then you would have seen awesome, colorful, vibrant, unique frames on my wall.  The frames are from an amazing company called The Organic Bloom.  They handmake each and every single frame. From cutting, to painting to sanding, it's all done with love. I absolutely LOVE this company, and it's actually the only frame company that I prefer and offer to my clients to purchase.  Seriously, just take a look for yourself at just how gorgeous they are.

These frames are seriously in high demand, and The Organic Bloom usually gets an influx of orders right before the holidays.  You can order these frames directly through me. And if you want prints from your session in the frame, guess what? Your print is FREE.  The Organic Bloom offers a wide range of gorgeous colors and shapes.  So it's all custom to what you want, and matches with any decor.

Baby Juliette {Delaware Newborn & Family Photographer}

I met sweet little Juliette when she was just five days new. Five days! So tiny, and warm.  I really do miss that sweet newborn stage.  With Charlotte being 13 months now, and walking and talking, five days new seems like forever ago.  I had the pleasure of photographing Juliette with her mother Vanessa and father Ulysesses. I love simple, classic images. Parents with their new baby.

A Night Out {Marisa Taylor Photographer-Delaware Family & Child Photographer}

There are many things that I love.  But few that I love more than Panera Bread. It's one of my favorite places to go.  And since there is one just minutes from my house, I am there quite often.  I meet with clients there, I have "date night" there with my husband, and mommy and me lunches with Charlotte.  The people that work me pretty much know me by name.

We, and by we I mean Wesley, Charlotte, myself, my sister and her two children went up to Main Street for dinner since no one felt like cooking dinner, and thats where we had dinner. Of course, I had my camera with me, and photographed Charlotte as she watched all the people can cars go by.

I am always amazing with children. I always wonder what goes on in their little heads, what they think. How the world is so new and amazing to them.  Whenever I am feeling down, and I think things suck, all I have to do is look at Charlotte and realize that to a child, the world is absolutely amazing.

The Leeson Family {Delaware Family Photographer} Marisa Taylor Photography

Family sessions are on the top of my favorite subjects to photograph. I love getting to know a family, playing with their kids, and then following everyone around just capturing blips of their life.  Memories are special, point blank. I feel they are even more special when you have them and you can look back on them anytime you want.

So on a sunny, and very humid Friday morning I headed to meet Christi, her husband Ryan, and their two sons Rowan and Tristan...who were absolutely ADORABLE by the way.  I hung with their family for a while capturing life and love as it unfolded. Rowan picked a carrot from his grandfathers garden, and we followed a dragon, captured it in my camera, and Rowan had to give big hugs to his parents to the dragon wouldn't come out.

This is what love is all about.

Baby Declan {Delaware Newborn & Family Photographer} Marisa Taylor Photography

It all started with a meeting at Panera Bread. That's where I first met Beth and her daughter Maeve to discuss birth photography. Beth and I chatted like we were old friends, and Maeve and my daughter Charlotte discussed in toddler and baby talk about the muffin and go-gurt.  We talked about births, and raising children, and relationships.  I didn't know at that time that Beth and her family would be a major turning point in my business.

I photographed Beth's maternity session, and was there for the birth of her son Declan.  When it came time for the newborn session, I was beyond excited to see Beth and her family again.

Again, thank you Beth, Mike, Maeve, and Declan. It was an honor to be there, and you made the reason for doing what I do even stronger.  It's all about family, love, and life.

It's all about family, love, and kids being kids {Delaware lifestyle family photographer-Marisa Taylor Photography}

When you look at the walls in your home, what do you see?  Are they bare? Do they have a couple of snapshots of you and your family? Are they decorated?  The walls in your home, I believe, should tell the story of the love that your family shares.  From the wedding day to the first baby and beyond.  They should hold more than just quick snap shots, they should hold art. Huge displays of your life and love captured.

Your life is a story. A story worth telling.  Every moment, no matter how small is important.  When you bring children into the world, the characters in your story grow, and the plot thickens.  More chapters are added.  Your story should be captured and displayed for everyone to see.

I love doing what I do for many reasons. Connecting with people, making them laugh.  I love getting personal and finding out we have many of the same likes and dislikes.  I love watching families and children grow.  I love the fact that I am a big kid, and that allows me to connect with children in a way that other photographers can't.  Phineas and Ferb, got it! Disney musicals, all about it. Disney Princesses, heck yes!  I love it when my clients become friends, and we can laugh about the time when our kid pee'd on us, or how exhausted we are after going to the grocery store with a toddler in tow.

It's all about family, love, and kids being kids.  And I will be there to capture it.

The Why {Delaware Lifestyle Portrait Photographer}

My daughter is a year old. Wow.  I spent the last couple of hours watching the videos of her since she was born, and scrolling through the hundreds of photos that I have taken of her. Yes, hundreds.  Possibly even past the 1,000 mark.  It's never too much. There will never be enough video, never enough pictures when it comes to her. I feel that I need to get every single moment. Not just for myself, but for her. I want to show her how much she was loved, how happy she always was as a baby.

From being told that I wouldn't be able to have children, to giving birth to a perfectly healthy little girl is nothing short of a miracle.  She is my little miracle. She beat the odds.

The love I have for her, the want to capture every moment of her life translates into why I do what I do.  Every, single, moment is precious. No, I am not talking about the posed pictures that sit above the formal dining room fireplace.  I am talking about that and everything in between. Every single moment where the love you have for your child is multiplied exponentially each and every second. The pictures of us laughing, playing, loving life. The pictures of her unrolling the toilet paper in the bathroom.

The craziness of childhood, and all the love that goes with it.

Tips for a successful session! {Delaware Lifestyle Portrait Photographer}

The more family sessions I do, the more I learn about children and babies. How they react when they don't have a nap, if they are hungry, if they want to play.  Now, by no means am I an expert at child behavior, but I have been dubbed the baby whisperer more than once.  I love family sessions (as well as newborn and childrens sessions) because it gives me a chance to showcase your amazing family being, well...amazing!  I know that things can be hectic at times, and you wonder to yourself, "How in the world is this lady going to create amazing images when the kids are losing their minds". Don't worry. This is why you hired me!  I have some tips for you that will help you in preparing for your upcoming session, and help you the day of.

1) Understand that kids will be kids.  There is nothing we, as adults can do to change that. It's ok if they want to run around and not pose for every picture, sometimes the most amazing images come from the candid moments.

2) Don't get flustered. Don't let them smell fear! If your child senses that you are getting frustrated during the session, more often than not, they are going to get frustrated too.

3) Explain to them the night before what is going to happen the next day. Make a fun story at bedtime if you need to.  If they are prepared for a fun day in front of the camera beforehand, that's usually when they are the most cooperative.

4) Make sure they are napped and fed before your session.  This is extremely important for toddlers and kids, especially if you have them on a schedule.  If it calls for it, schedule your session according to their eating/napping schedule. Nobody likes a rumbly tummy.

5) If you have a newborn, keep them awake PRIOR to the session, and feed them right when they arrive. Usually when you keep the baby awake, and feed them right when you get to my home studio, or I come to your location, they are nice and ready to fall asleep. This makes those adorable newborn poses much easier to accomplish!

6) Dress comfortably!  I used to hate when my mother dressed me up in clothes I didn't like for pictures. While I understand that you want your little ones looking their greatest while they are captured on camera, make sure that they, and you are comfortable!

7) Reward system! Aka Bribing.  Some parents love it, some parents don't.  But be prepared to have something with you, during your session, that you can reward your child with. Happy children=happy pictures!

8) Hydrate! Nothing is worse than having a dry mouth and being thirsty during your session. Have some water or juice on hand so that no one gets thirsty.

9) Schedule your session at a familiar location.  Usually children do best in environments that they are familiar in.  So if your child doesn't like new places, schedule your session at a location that is familiar to them.

10) Bring a piece of home. If you are coming to my home studio or booking your session at a new location, make sure you bring a piece of home for your child. Whether it be a toy, blanket, or a picture.  It should be something that reminds them of home and comfort.

Lastly, but not least...

11) Be yourself!!!  It's your pictures, be yourself! Have fun, get loose, be comfortable. It's all about capturing your family as a family. Full of love and laughter, and togetherness!
