The Great 2010 Springtime Referral Event!

These past two weeks have been insanely busy for me, but I am loving every minute of it.  The flippy floppy attitude of the weather has caused a couple of reschedules for children's portraits.  But apparently this weekend we are supposed to have amazing weather. So it will be a very happy Easter/Passover/Holiday for everyone!

But, I have some exciting news for past and future clients.  I have started a new promotion.  It is called...drumroll please...The Great 2010 Springtime Referral Event!

I am very excited about this!  It is simple, and here is how it works:

You refer people for sessions.
When they book a session you get goodies!
You choose from a free 1 hour session or a $50 gift card.

Everyone benefits!  And for new and past clients, this is the chance to schedule some great springtime shoots for you and your family members.  Remember, once you refer someone, send me an email so I can take note of who the referral came from. We wouldn't want you missing out on this awesome opportunity, now would we?

Well that is it for now. Have a happy spring break/Easter/Passover/Holiday everyone!

Couples Session: Megan and Travis

Over the weekend, I was lucky enough to photograph two of my very good friends, Megan and Travis.  Megan is one of my best friends on this planet, she has been through a lot with me.  When I had my stroke, amazingly she was one of the few people that I could remember, and at that time, we had only been friends for a few months.  It's amazing how the universe brings amazing people into your life, the effect that friendship has.  Megan has been a great friend.

Which is why I was stoked to photograph her and her beau (I love that word by the way), Travis.  Now Travis is an amazing fellow also.  He has an amazing talent for pulling off many different accents.  He does an English accent, a great Sean Connery accent, and my favorite, Shaggy and Scooby Doo.  Anytime we are all together, it is constant laughs.  And I wouldn't have it any other way.

Here are a few pictures from the day.  Megan lives in the gorgeous area of Old New Castle, in the historic park.  Battery Park is literally just a few steps from her door.  Her backyard provided the perfect setting to easily capture two people in love.  Enjoy!

Baby Portrait: Talon

On Saturday, I went down to Smyrna, DE to photograph the amazingly cute Talon.  Talon is 9 weeks old, and makes the most amazing little facial expressions that I have ever seen.  He is just too adorable, and made the shoot even more fun.  Here are a few of the photos from the day:

Baby Portrait: John

I love baby sessions!  The session I had today, with the adorably cute John was a blast.  He was such a little ham!  As soon as I broke out the camera he started with the smiles and giggles, and just didn't stop.  Here are a few of the pictures of the day:

Engagement Session: Autumn and Jim

Today I did the engagement portrait session of Autumn and Jim.  They were awesome to work with!  We shot at the lovely Rockwood Park located in Wilmington, Delaware.  It is such a gorgeous place. And I mean gorgeous.  There is an historic mansion there that is amazing.  You can even rent the mansion and other areas, including the gardens for weddings, and events.

Here are some of the photos of the day:

Boudoir Session: Donna

I love all things vintage, especially pin-ups.  So with loving pin-ups, it is obvious that I find boudoir to be another obsession of mine.  Boudoir allows a woman to dress up, do her hair, get her makeup done, and look glamorous.  They are forever captured in their comfortable, sexy, and glamorous moments.

On Sunday I had a boudoir shoot with Donna.  We had little space to work with, but we had a great big patio window and a nice leather chair which is all we needed.  This was the first time she had ever done something like this, and she was a bit nervous at first, but she warmed up, and then it showed through her photos.  I believe that all women should feel comfortable and love themselves no matter what their shape or size, tall or short, or any physical differences.  Beauty is within all of us!

Here are some of my favorite shots from that day.

Baby Session: Audrey

I love baby sessions! Babies are just simply adorable, and the perfect little subjects.  Now admittedly,  I have to work on the little ones time, because if the baby is sleepy, hungry, or cranky, nothing is getting done!  This little one is Audrey, and she is two months old.  The shoot started off on the wrong foot, turned out Audrey was very hungry, and needed a good burp.  Once her tummy was full, she was a happy little one, and cooed the whole way through.  Enjoy!

Franco and Carmen: Engagement Photos

Franco and Carmen are a real laid back couple that love to have fun.  They picked a perfect day to do their engagement shoot. The weather was gorgeous, and there was no crazy wind!  I love photographing couples that share the same personality as I do, it tends to make better photos.  We laughed the whole entire time of the shoot.  Here are some of my favorite photos of their day:

Braving the cold!

Yesterday was a very fun and interesting day.  I did a bridal portrait shoot in historic Old New Castle/Battery Park.  Luckily the Gods smiled down upon me and granted us with sun, to keep us at least somewhat warm.  But it was a feeble effort considering it was 43 degrees and windy! The wind chill factor made it feel like 34 degrees! But the bride was a trooper and we had a lot of fun!  There are a lot of reasons to do a separate bridal shoot.  For one you can be excited and anxious about your dress and what to put it on and be photographed right away! It can also be because your wedding is not for some time away, or you want to present your love with a surprise gift at the wedding, but do not want them to see you actually being photographed.  Sometimes, depending on your wedding day, venue, time, location, etc  you may not have enough time in between to break away from the formal/family/wedding party shots to get them done on your own.  So there is absolutely nothing wrong with getting your hair done, dolling yourself up and putting on your wedding dress before the big day!

Here are some of the photos from the bride, Melanies' shoot:

And she had a dog that was just too cute to not photograph!  Spike wanted to get in the pictures too :)

And that's about it! It's another sunny day and later on I am headed out for a childrens portrait session.  Two girls and one boy. The girls are two and three and the boy is almost four months old! And they are so adorable! I have a weak spot for babies.

Till next time!

Stylish camera bags

I have many obsessions. I'm obsessed with shoes, vintage clothing, corsets, and bags.  I love bags! As a photographer, I want a durable yet very stylish bag to carry with me on shoots.  Now, www.Etsy.Com is one of my favorite websites in the world.  It features a wide array of handmade items.  So brides I suggest you go there for things for your wedding, you will be delighted.  I even have a shop where I sell my wares.  But I came across this great Etsy seller today, who makes the most amazing camera and laptop bags and accessories that I have ever seen.  Those of you who love trendy, modern fashion, definitely visit this site.  The designer is Janine King, and her work is amazing. Here is her site: http://www.etsy.com/shop/janinekingdesigns.  Have a look for yourself:

The camera bags hold a DSLR camera as well as two lenses.  My favorite is the tiffany blue and brown damask print.  I will definitely be purchasing that bag very soon.

There are also matching laptop cases and smaller bags, look:

I contacted her to see if it was possible for her to custom make a camera belt with pockets to hold lenses, flash, memory cards, etc to match the camera bag.  It would be great if she did!  I will let you know the results, because her work is amazing.  As a seamstress and crafter, I appreciate great quality work when I see it.

Definitely browse by her shop, and tell her that "TheHauteDame" sent you!

Till next time!

Delaware Today Bridal Show

My husband and I went to the Delaware Today Bridal Show this past Sunday to scout out vendors for our upcoming (re)wedding. We had a great time, and luck was with us! We both won two prizes back to back which made me a little bit too happy! We won a gift card and two bags-I firmly believe one can never have too many bags. For me, attending the show was just the boost I needed to get everything in order for this season of spring, summer, and fall weddings. I will be in a bridal show this upcoming April a week before my trip to Texas, more details of that to come later. For now, here are some photos from the bridal show:

Oh yes! I almost forgot. I revamped my website and gave it a new look.  Something fresh, creative, and funky, and of course an ode to my love of all things retro. Check it out!  www.MarisaTaylorPhotography.com

So for this upcoming bridal show in April there are a lot of things I have to do and prepare, but I am very excited to do so.  This will be my first bridal show (I don't know why I never presented at one before) so I am super excited.  I go into new jobs all bounced up and happy. I am looking forward to meeting new/fellow brides and vendors.

Once I get the other back out of the car I am going to go through all of the vendors and list my favorites here.  The biggest thing for me was the bakery vendors, because I cannot have sugar, and many of my guests are vegan, diabetic also.  I wanted to have different options for all my guests.  My husband literally tried every single cupcake there!  So he will give his review also.

A word to brides/couples.  For all of you that are having spring/summer weddings have fun with it!  Your wedding day is special, don't let it stress you out. As far as photography goes, remember you do not have to go into debt to have great photography. Don't be afraid to ask questions!

Till next time!
