Home is where the heart is!

Would you believe that many of my images are taken in my clients home? A lot of people think that you need to have the perfect home to have a great session, trust me when I say you don't! My home is far from perfect, but some of my favorite images, the ones that take my breath away were taken right in my house.

I get emails where clients are concerned that their house is not good enough for a session. And i want to say, You hush your mouth! I know how to make it work. Trust me! But there are some things that you can do to make sure we get the most out of your space.

1-let me know the rooms in your home that have the best light. Sometimes it is the living room and bedroom.

2-clear any major clutter that you don't want in the images

3-if we are using your bedroom, a nice fluffy down comforter is perfect for the jumping on the bed shots

4-try adding splashes of color or patterns to your home decor.

It is my job to not only make you look and feel incredible, but to also work with what is available to me, to create some amazing images. Besides, your home is so full of love and happiness, it is the absolute best place for your session. It's the best place for you to be 100% you!

Yes to Love...

I am a sucker for love. Not exactly a hopeless romantic, but love none the less.  When my husband proposed to me, we were at work. It was the day before we were heading down to Florida for my first ever trip to Disney World.  We were saying goodbye to coworkers, when he said, "Hey, I got something for ya". And he tossed me the box with the engagement ring in it...that's our story.

So it's no surprise that I can spend hours on Youtube looking at engagement videos and proposals, and stories of love.  This happens to be one of my favorites:

Now, the most epic thing about this proposal is not the song (I LOVE Bruno Mars), the dancing, or the fact that she said yes.  The most epic thing is what came AFTER the video.

I am telling you now, grab some tissues, and be prepared to laugh and cry at the same time!

These kind of make me want to run and shout from the rooftops at how amazing love is. How everyone deserves love.  So take a moment today, and tell the people in your life that you love them.

Don't wait!

Very rare am I in front of the camera. And although, I have made it a point to appear in more pictures with Charlotte, I have still yet to do one, simple, gorgeous glamour shot. Thankfully though, I had the opportunity to do one this week. And let me say, I am amazed.

A few months back, a new photographer in my area, Mariah, approached me about talking shop and connecting with photographers in the area.  We went to Starbucks, chatted for about 5 hours the first time, and have been friends since.  She has come such a long way, and has so much passion and drive in what she does.  She wants to make women feel beautiful! And let me tell you, the images that she took of me took my breath away!

So here is just a sneak peek...

I am glad that I was able to help her along her way, and am so proud to see how she is developing as a photographer. When you have time, stop by her Facebook page, Exposed Radiance Imaging, and please, please show her some love.

Now, when my husband saw this, he was floored. He said "This is the beautiful you that I see everyday". And I will tell you what, I was moved to tears.  I now know what it feels like when my clients see their images.

So I will let you now know, stop waiting to take great photos. You are beautiful NOW.  Stop this moment in time, and do something nice for yourself. Whether its a glam/boudoir session or a family session. You deserve it, and you will look beautiful!  And when you get to whatever your goal is, get some new clothes, and do it all again. But don't wait!  Your time, is now.

Engagement: Meaghan and Jim {Delaware Weddings}

Meaghan and Jim are good friends of mine, so I was honored that they wanted me photograph their engagement session.  What made it even better, is that we did it on the grounds of where we all went to college, and where the two love birds met, the University of Delaware.  Even though we did this session in January, the weather was perfect! It was as if the weather gods knew how important this was and blessed us with a beautiful day!

These two are so in love, and you can see it. I know that they are going to have many happy years together.

Finding your passion {Delaware lifestyle photographer- Marisa Taylor Photography}

There was a time, when I had completely wanted to give up photography. I will admit that it just wasn't thrilling me anymore. I was working too hard, without anything in return. And then I had a wake up call, also known as pregnancy. It was then that I realized I had to start focusing on photographing what I wanted and less of what was expected.

I thought I was supposed to be good at every type of photography out there. Weddings, boudoir, landscape, portraits, family, nature, etc. I thought, that as a photographer, I was supposed to offer all of this. And to be honest, by offering all of these things, I was wearing myself very thin.

I do love photographing weddings, they are full of love. I love photographing boudoir, making women feel beautiful rocks! I love photographing nature, because I adore flowers and am a bit of a tree nugget. But what do I love more than all of that? Photographing love and the growing family! This means maternity, babies, kids, and families. That's where my passion lies. So does that mean I give up on photographing everything else? Heck no! It just means I focus on what I want to shoot, and if other things come my way, and give me a chance to be extra creative, I'm all about it.

So my advice to those just breaking out into this is shoot everything until you find your passion. And once you do, run with it! What's the one thing that makes you happy about photography? What do you enjoy shooting more than anything? Find it, and grow with it.

Learn everything you can, continue to grow, and dream big.
