Engagement: Katy & Matt

It is a pretty Sunday afternoon, despite the crazy snow that happened yesterday. But all is well know with Mother Nature...for the time being.  So on this pretty Sunday afternoon, I have an engagement session that I would like to share with you.  It's full of fall, love, and pretty colors. Oh, and the soon to be bride has some pretty awesome purple shoes that I NEED in my life.

So here are Katy and Matt, an adorable and fun couple that are getting married up in Buffalo, New York in August 2012.  It's funny, because Matt proposed to Katy in Canada, so all of their friends told them that the engagement didn't count here in the U.S!  But as you can see from the images below, these two are totally in love, and were so easy to photograph!  Here's to you two!

Snow in October?

Yes.  You read right. It is snowing in October in the Northeast.  I am not too sure what mother nature is thinking, but if I recall correctly, we are not supposed to have snow in October! Especially this close to Halloween?  Who wants to trick or treat with sludge on the ground?

This totally unexpected snow reminded me of one thing though:  Do not wait to do things you really want to do, if you lose the opportunity, you won't know when the next opportunity arises.  When I first saw that it was snowing I was a little bit worried because I have fall sessions set up for the upcoming week!  Now grant it, a snow themed shoot would be very pretty, but we weren't going for snow!  But according to the weather channel, the rest of the week is supposed to be in the 50's with no snow.  So I will be keeping my fingers crossed.

In the meantime, check out this sneak peak from my last fall engagement session. This is what October is supposed to look like!

Wedding-Fredia and James

Last week I had the pleasure of being present and photographing Fredia and James wedding.  A quiet, but totally in love couple with an adorable son.  In fact, when I did their engagement session, we also put their son, Lawrence, into the pictures and got some great family shots.

Let me start off by saying that Fredia was absolutely stunning in her wedding gown.  It was absolutely gorgeous.

Here are a few peaks of their wedding day.

Thank you for inviting me into your lives to capture your special day.  Many years of happiness and love for the both of you!

Mrs. Busy Bee

I know I haven't updated in quite some time, that is horrible of me. I have been quite busy lately. Mommyhood, keeping the house in order (it's amazing that a newborn can create a mess), plus getting back into work with the wedding, engagement session, and double bride bridal session that I shot in three days consecutively.  Here are some sneak peeks to hold you over!

And a rare glimpse of me! (I am actually working while my second shooter got this)

Also...I HAVE A NEW WEBSITE!  And you know what?  I love it. It is me (finally!).  And I am happy that it is done!

Enjoy your night folks!  I have a lot of editing to do. But first a cute and adorable baby girl is going to get some snuggles first.

Senior Session: Maya

Almost 18 years ago a little girl was born.  That little girl happened to be my baby sister Maya.  Sure at first I was excited for a baby sister.  But with an 8 year difference, I soon learned that being a big sister meant sharing and doing things that the baby wanted to do.  It took a while, but we got closer, and are best friends now.  I can't believe that she will soon be turning 18 and leaving for college.  She is such an accomplished young woman (and I am not being biased).  She runs cross country, plays lacrosse, is first chair clarinet in band, and is section leader in marching band.  She is quite awesome. And...we both love sushi.

I call her a baby giraffe, because even though we are almost the same height (she is one inch shorter than me), she is nothing but legs.

I love you Maya!!!

And the following picture shows how goofy she is when she is around me (she is probably going to hate me for posting this)

Loving Yourself

If you follow my facebook page, you rarely see pictures of me face on.  I personally feel that I make the weirdest faces when I am photographed, and I end up looking goofy.  The problem is, I am in a field where I capture peoples beauty, so how can I tell them to feel natural in front of the camera and let their beauty shine through if I dislike being in front of the camera myself?  I suppose it has to do with that I feel that every person is beautiful, and one of the skills of a great photographer is making your subjects feel that way.  My past brides and portrait clients have all told me how great I make them feel in front of the camera.  Everyone from my maternity clients who have gained weight, to my brides who have curves.  I love directing people, and I have a knack for making them feel comfortable.

It's odd that I, as a photographer, do not like having my picture taken (well not so much taken, but more so shared with others to see).  It is weird.  I am confident, I am outgoing.  I have to be right?  I stand out.  When I am at a wedding, I am easily spotted because I stand out (thanks for my huge fluff of hair and my height).  So why is it that I do not like having my own picture taken?

I am not sure why it is, but when talking with a group of amazing photographers, one of them shared a link.  It's about loving yourself, and it hits some major points!  So whenever you are feeling down and not loving yourself, take a read.

Love, Fun, and Encouragement

It's true that when you are a business owner, especially in a field as creative as photography, that you have a lot of competition.  You always have to think of how to constantly stay ahead of the competition, present yourself in new and unique ways, and keep clients coming back to you and referring their family and friends.  One would think that with all this competition, that a photographer would get lonely.  We wouldn't have any photographer friends to talk with or hang out with, because after all, everyone is competition.

Recently, I have learned that is not true.

Within the past 24 hours, I have met an amazing group of people in my field, in my area who are amazing!  They uplift each other, encourage each other, and just have fun with each other.  There is no negativity or competition.  The best part is they work with each other!

I love this group of people, and I thank them for letting me learn from them.

Showiteers, you rock!

Little loves and pumpkin milkshakes

The fall weather has been quiet finnicky.  Instead of breaking out my sweaters (which I can't seem to find) and boots, I am still wearing t-shirts and flip flops out most days.  Mother nature can't make up her mind.  Not that I am complaining, I would rather it stay semi-warm for as long as possible.  I tell you this, I am not looking forward to winter.

But being that it is fall, even if the weather does not agree, it is time to indulge in all things pumpkin flavored!!!  To me, it just seems weird to have anything pumpkin flavored if it's not during the months of October-December.  It is sort of an unwritten rule.  Talking about indulging, indulged I did last night.  We went to Sonic and I ordered a pumpkin milkshake.  It was DELICIOUS!!!  I must have sounded like a cow while drinking it, that is how good it was.  It had bits of pumpkin pie or pumpkin cookie, something pumpkin in it.  I need another one. Right. Now.

Now onto something not pumpkin related...

That is me and my daughter Charlotte. I can't believe she is 7 weeks old already.  She has changed so much!

So anyway, go get yourself a pumpkin milkshake from Sonic!

My loves

My daughter is six weeks, soon to be seven.  I can't believe that it has been almost seven weeks since she came into this world.  It seems like just yesterday I was so anxious in giving birth, and now that she is here, I want her to stay little forever.  She holds her head up, loves to smile, attempts to laugh, coos all the time, it is just amazing.  She smiles when her dad enters the room and plays with her, and my heart just ends up overflowing with love.  My husband and my daughter, the two people in the world that I love more than anything else.  Everything that I do is for them.

{In: Delaware Bride Magazine}

Another check on my business goal list!  I am so happy right now, words can't even describe it.  Yes, as the title says my images were in the Fall/Winter 2011 issue of Delaware Bride.  Now, when the issue first came out online, I knew that one of my issues was featured in the "Just Married" section, but as I went to pick up a copy at the store today I found that another one of my images was featured on an article about groomsmen and tuxes.  This new discovery made me squeal. Yes, I squealed in public.  So, this was one of my big goals to accomplish, and I am ecstatic about it.  Thanks again to Heather and Mike for being so awesome and fun, and letting me get all creative and crazy on their wedding day for their photos.  You guys rock!

I would show the picture of me holding the magazine, but I look way too goofy, and I have an image to maintain.  (I am totally joking, but seriously, not showing the picture)

Engagement Session-Fredia and James

The summer is over, and it seems like some days mother nature forgot the memo that we are in fall and not winter.  But she did give us a break this past Saturday when I shot the engagement session for Fredia and James.  They are getting married in just a few weeks, so with their wedding right around the corner we headed out to Battery Park, again one of my favorite places to photograph.  They had their son Lawrence with them, who is adorable and has the coolest glasses (yes, I am totally jealous of them).  So this turned out to be both an engagement session and a family session.  Here are a few images!

And here is a shot of the awesome family having fun on the pier

I just love the image below.  Being a mom makes me extra sappy now!
