Happy Halloween! {Delaware Family & Childrens Lifestyle Photographer}

Happy Halloween!  Here is my official Halloween post. Frankenstorm Sandy is gone, and left the neighborhood in a bit of a mess, but there is no rain and the kids are excited for Halloween.  I hope everyone has a safe, happy and fun Halloween! Remember, don't eat too much candy!

Here is Charlotte as Little Red Riding Hood.  What are you going as?

she then decided she hated the outerpart of her costume and wanted to be a little milk maid baby

The Clyde Family {Delaware Family & Child Photographer}

The day was a bit overcast, with a slight chill in the air.  I actually love overcast days, so I was very excited to head out to photograph Alyson, Kevin, and Chloe.  They live in Historic New Castle, one of my most favorite places on the planet.

We walked around, went to the park, and walked some more. Chloe played hug and tackle with her mom and dad, we sang some songs, and we marched and danced.  With me, family sessions are simple.  Capturing the love and fun that families share, and the moments in between.

Thank you again Alyson, Kevin and Chloe for letting me capture your family.

Halloween Session with the Queen of the Mad Fae

One of my favorite holidays of the year is next week. HALLOWEEN!  I love Halloween. I love dressing up, frolicking about, trick or treating. I just love it all.  The crisp fall air rushing over you as you are out with your friends and family going from door to door.  Although I never went trick or treating as a child, as an adult, I love it! And now this year, I get to take Charlotte too!  As long as this FrankenSandy storm doesnt hit us on Halloween eve.

So in honor of Halloween, I have a very special session to share with you.  Sure, I could have waited until Halloween was actually here, but i'm impatient like that. Plus, I am very much in love with this images. You may have seen some of the previews up on my facebook page.

A big thank you to my friend Amy for trekking through the woods with me, protecting me from snakes, and portraying the Queen of the Mad Fae. Amy is seriously an amazing woman!

Sharing {Delaware Family & Baby Lifestyle Photographer}

If you have been following me, you know I am a big sap. I love love, and hugs, and happiness. I cry at almost every movie I watch, and then I bust into a fit of laughter. I am a big believer in preserving memories, and making each moment count. Even the tiniest, simplest moments.  After all, life is a collection of moments brought together and played out on a timeline. The sad thing is, we usually can't go back in time, unless someone invents time travel, or Doctor Who is real!  But for us, we can savor every moment.  Take photos, take video, write journals.  Share your life in an amazing way so that your children and your childrens children can enjoy it.

Why do I love photographing families so much?  I love knowing that the images that I take, the moments that I capture will always be there for that family.  I've preserved memories. The fun, the laughter of jumping on the bed. To the sweet touching moments of a new big brother and his little sister.  It's all about capturing those memories.

I am guilty of being the one capturing the memories in my own family, but not the one who are in those memories either. So from this day on, I am going to make a more concerted effort to get in front of the camera, include myself in the images and the video that I take.

Chic Critique Cover Contest

It's that time again! Time to enter an image for the Chic Critique Cover contest. I believe this is my third time entering!  Which is hard to believe, because time has really flown!

Well, here is my image. I love it!

Even if I don't win the cover, it would be cool to receive runner up/honorable mention!  I just love being creative and having my work seen.

The Chipman Family-Full of Love! {Delaware Newborn and Family Photographer}

When Christy first contacted me, and told me that she wanted me to photograph her newborn daughter and her family, I knew it was a match made in heaven. Why?  Because her daughter was named Charlotte and her nickname is Charley. Which happens to be my daughters name and nickname! Does it get better than that?

So I was definitely excited to photograph this awesome family, and hold sweet little Charlotte. Of course, after every time I photograph a newborn, I want to have another baby.

The cutest part of the day, the love that big brother Nate showered upon his baby sister. He was all about hugs and kisses. It was just absolutely adorable. I hope that if I do have another child, Charlotte is that way with her new baby brother/sister.  This family was full of love, smiles, laughter, and happiness. My kind of people!

The Little Moments

I always have my camera. Always. I learned a long time ago to not just photograph my clients, but to photograph my own life.  Now admittedly, I am not always on the other side of the lens, but I still photograph just for me.  I love collecting little memories to look back on, even when at the time they seem like it's just a blur.

My daughter won't be young forever. No child will. They will get older and grow up, and one day holding their hand will be uncool to them, and they will run to hang out with their friends.  But at the end of the day, they will always and forever be your baby. And you will always and forever be their hero.

Baby Cousins! {Delaware Newborn Photographer}

I know I am so behind on blogging, and I promise to make up for that! Starting with these two adorable cousins!

A few weeks ago, I put out a call for newborns, and their mama's answered. I wanted to do some simple, classic, timeless mommy and baby shots.  No props, no frills, just baby in momma's loving arms.  So I was thrilled when Lyz and Jaime brought in their sons Jackson and Callan. It's not often that I get to photograph newborn boys, but I have noticed I am getting more and more in, which if course makes me happy!

First up, little Jackson:

And here is Callan:

A story about my Grandmother

Earlier today I was going through photos, and I came across a picture of my grandmother that I had taken a few weeks ago when we went to go visit her.  I posted the image on my Facebook page, and I wanted to share with you a story.

My grandmother has always been my world. I am definitely thankful that she has always been around, and is here for Charlotte too. I just couldn't imagine life without my grandma.  When I was younger, I was always at my grandparents house, especially during the summer.  And they would bring me along when we went down south for vacations and to visit family. Now although I don't remember much of it because I was so young, my grandparents always like to point out how I was friendly to everyone who gave me food and how I always asked for bacon.  Which honestly, would explain my love for bacon now.

When I was younger, I was always fascinated with my grandmothers skin, wrinkles and all. I found myself staring at her features; her face, her large flat ears, even her short cropped hair.  Her skin has always been so soft, yet so strong.  In my mind she always reminded me of the leader of an elephant. Laugh now, but you will see what I mean.

It wasn't until years later when I was explaining this to my husband, the man with the answers to everything, that it all came together. He explained to me, through many years of watching animal documentaries, that elephants are a matriarchal society.  The herd is led by one older female elephant, and that there are offspring, and her offsprings off spring in the herd.  Elephants by nature are a very strong, familial unit.  The main elephant is the one that the herd turns to in times of crisis, the one that they follow when they trek for miles and miles in search of water, and the one that teaches her daughters how to raise their daughters.

Essentially, he described my grandmother perfectly.

Life is Amazing {Delaware Lifestyle Portrait Photographer}

Yes, i'm that mom. Anytime my daughter does something cute or amazing, I am following her around with the camera like she is a celebrity being chased by the paparazzi.  I can't help it. Motherhood is absolutely amazing to me.  Childhood even more so.  I don't take pictures just for myself, I take them so that Charlotte can look back on them as she grows up.  I want her to see her quirks and habits when she was a baby, and I want her to laugh as I did.  And when she gets MUCH older and has children, I want her children to see how she was.  I find looking at images of everything an amazing experience.  It truly does capture that single moment in time.. So when people ask me why do I take so many photos, why do I love taking photos, and why you should have your own photos taken, it's simple. Capture your life in an amazing way.

Lori & Jon get Married! {Delaware Wedding Photographer}

I figured that the best way to start off the first post in October is with a fantastic wedding.  I'm going to be honest, Jon & Lori have so much personality that any other day just wouldn't do. I had to wait to the first, the beginning to share their amazing wedding with you all.

The day was perfect. It really was. The sun was shining, it wasn't too warm or too cool, there was a nice breeze. Lori and her bridesmaids were all at her house, which was a fun scene to walk into it. And then I saw the dress, which was gorgeous!

And then it was time for everyone to get ready. There was a lot of laughter involved. Oh, and I was totally gushing over the shoes and her necklace.

And across town, the guys were doing their thing.

The ceremony was beautiful, and of course I cried...as I always do. And then we moved on to my favorite part...the fun pictures!

And after a tear filled toast from Lori's dad, everyone had fun and danced the night away!

Thank you again Lori & Jon for letting me a part of your amazing day. I wish you two many years of love, happiness, laughter, and lots of soccer games!
