The Seka Family + Ruby Turns 1! {Pennsylvania & Delaware Lifestyle Family Photographer}

I had a great time meeting and photographing the Seka family. A mutual friend of ours, and a client of mine had purchased a gift certificate for the family to use for a portrait session, so by the time I showed up, it was like we already knew each other.  Plus, it was the youngest member of the family, Ruby's first birthday just a week prior. So it was a combination of a first birthday session, with the most amazing wooden birthday cake (less messy!), and a family session.

The Seka family and I had a lot in common, which is always a good thing. Besides crafting, our love of natural foods, their son Brendan loved legos and the Avengers. It's not every day that I can talk geek while working.  And after the session, I had my first taste of tomato pie, and let me just say, I am hooked!

Take a look at how amazing this family is and how much fun they had during their family session!

Guess what's back! {Delaware Family & Wedding Photographer}

Well, technically it did not go away. I gave it a break so that I can spend more time with my family and reflect on my business and focus on the direction that I wanted to go in.  There was a time when I photographed exclusively weddings, and that was up until I was pregnant. Yes, I was photographing weddings all the way up until I was 36 weeks pregnant, crazy I know.  After Charlotte was born, there was much contemplation on whether or not I would go back to weddings.  I mean, I love weddings, I absolutely love them. I love love. I love two people coming together in front of friends and family and sharing their love for each other and vowing to spend the rest of their life with one another.  I love that people choose me to capture their amazing love story.

But from when my daughter was born in 2011, and when I partially gave up weddings, my family and baby business grew. And by grew, I mean it grew a  lot.  I did almost three times as much work photographing families, babies, and kids, and it has been amazing to watch my business grow.  And thanks to so many friends in the industry that are also photographers, I have not only picked my niche, which is babies, families, and kids, but I can still have the opportunity to step outside of that niche and dive into fashion, which has been absolutely amazing!  I have been able to be even more creative and utilize techniques that I have learned from watching other photographers with posing and lighting. Lighting? Yes, you heard right. The girl who vowed to never use studio lights, uses them pretty consistently now.  And the crazy thing is? All for of these images were done in my little home studio.  So lesson here folks is you make due with what you have!

If you can stop by my Facebook page and give me some likes and share the page, I will love you forever, and don't forget to visit the actual website, www.marisaseasan.com  to see more great images, plus the photographic series I am doing with different subjects.

Ok! Moving right a long! Weddings! The love, the dancing, the food, the laughter. I am now accepting weddings for the rest of the year and for 2015. The only catch is that I am only accepting a very limited number of weddings. Years in business, I have learned to take what I can handle and not burn myself out. Plus, I already give my clients all of me during their sessions. I want to give all of me PLUS more to make your wedding images extra magical.

I know that through the years of me being a business owner, I have continued to grow. I have learned different styles of photography, how to pose people, how to interact with crowds, what to expect during weddings, baby sessions and more. I think that experiencing all of these types of photography has helped me to become a better photographer and a better business owner.

So when you have time, please visit my updated wedding website: http://www.marisataylorphotography.com/weddings    And if you know anyone that is getting married, spread the word!

2013 Year in Review {Delaware Lifestyle Family Photographer}

Whew! Here we are again! Closing out another amazing year. Just a few months ago, I was saying that it is taking forever for this year to get over with, and now, here it is.  2013 has been an amazing year for Marisa Taylor Photography. There has been lots of learning and growing. Branding my business, coming up with a pricing structure that works for me, learning to cater to clients even better than I have before, new shooting techniques, finding and honing my style while exploring new styles, it has been a whirlwind. An amazing one, and I do not regret any of it.

Trying to balance raising a two year old, marriage, home life, and a business is tough. Especially when you have an auto-immune disease. But this past year has proven that I can do it.  That I DID do it.  There have been many times when I wanted to quit, when I just wanted to sell of my camera gear and not do it anymore.  Many nights that I have spent editing and emailing, and anguishing over photos.  Many days comparing myself to other photographers and why I am not them.  This was this year that I broke that spell. This was the year that I proved to myself that Marisa Taylor Photography is here to stay.

So with that said, 2014 is going to be even more amazing. I have special collections in store, I want to do more stylized family and baby sessions, as well as continue expanding my fashion brand, Marisa Seasan.  I want to learn more, grow more, and meet more amazing photographers and photograph more wonderfully amazing stories.

So let's take a look back at 2013:

In 2013, I have photographed 35 family and portrait sessions, 3 weddings, 2 engagement sessions, 3 boudoir sessions, 26 newborn and baby sessions, and 1 birth! Not to mention all of the sessions I have photographed of Charlotte, special projects, and my new dive into fashion portraiture.

None of this would have been possible without YOU.  So a huge thank you to everyone! Everyone who has supported me, everyone who has believed in me, everyone that has trusted me to tell the story of the love that they share with their family.  Please continue spreading the word about Marisa Taylor Photography! Have your friends & family like the Facebook page!

See you next year!

A very special Small Business Saturday {Delaware Lifestyle Portrait Photographer}

Good morning everyone!!!

I hope you all had a wonderful and fabulous Thanksgiving! I know we did. It was our first Thanksgiving in our new home. We cooked, had an amazing dinner with friends and family, and I just loved it.  And then there was dancing to Gangnam Style, and a bunch of other videos.

And then there was Friday morning, Black Friday. We stayed in, but I was up early to snatch an amazing deal from one of my favorite and amazing corset makers, Damsel In this Dress.  I am so excited for it to get here!

Then there was a flash of inspiration.  Because I have received so much support and have watched my business go from a far off dream to an actual reality, I definitely have to say thank you. Thank you to all my clients, friends and family, those who have supported me, those who have believed in me, those that told me not to give up.  How do I say thank you to such amazing people who continue to put their trust in me with capturing, the real life moments of their families, their wedding days, their children, the births of their children?

OFFER SUCH AN AMAZING DEAL THAT I HAVE NEVER OFFERED BEFORE!!!

Originally I posted these on Black Friday, and they went flying out like hotcakes! But I received quite a few messages about offering more sessions because many folks were not at home on Friday. So here it is! Small Business Saturday, and it's for you! Enjoy!!!

Read the full details and purchase your BOGO Free Portrait Sessions here! http://marisataylorphotography.com/#/bogo-black-friday/

Oh! And because it wouldn't be Thanksgiving in our house without a little sword action. Here is my husband about to carve the turkey with his sword

Happy Fathers Day!

This Fathers Day started out on a bang for us. On our way home early this morning, we made a right turn, and the front passenger tire popped off. Completely popped off. Apparently, all of the lug nuts were missing except one.  How does that happen?  Thankfully, we have AAA, and we were picked up and towed back to our place, and the car to the mechanic.

This was all at 5 in the morning.

So, sans car.

Either way, I want to wish every dad and every mom playing both roles a Happy Fathers Day!

Wes is an amazing father to Charlotte, and you can tell when she looks at him and her face lights up.  Enjoy today!

Charlotte a,k,a, Little Miss Chic {Delaware Baby Photographer}

Being the daughter of a photographer is tough. Charlotte has been in front of the camera since the day she was born. And now, at 9 months old, she is her own little person and is able to crawl away from the camera when she is sick of it.  From time to time Charlotte receives props to model for boutique baby prop shops.  Some times the shoots go amazingly well, sometimes...not so much.  Yesterday though was a great day!  Here are some of the images from her shoot!  And after that, visit Little Bits Chic over on Etsy!  I absolutely ADORE her stuff!

I must admit, she is my favorite subject to photograph!

MegaMillions Fever

So it seems that MegaMillions Fever has hit. To be honest, it had skipped my mind until yesterday when my mother mentioned it. Apparently it is at one of its biggest jackpots ever, 540 million dollars. Yes, you read that right. 540 MILLION DOLLARS (insert Dr. Evil voice and pinky here).  I know that we could all use that jackpot!  So today I sent my husband out with a list of numbers, and we are taking a chance at fate.  We've always had a plan of what we would do if we ever won the lottery, and up until last year, nothing about that plan has changed.  Last year our daughter was born, so now if we were to be so awesomely lucky to win the lottery, her future takes first priority.

And of course I would invest in some new equipment, an awesome studio, travel and take pictures! And donate to my hearts content. Maybe even open up an animal rescue. We shall see!

But in other news...It's FRIDAY! And although it is not as warm as it was last week, it is still some gorgeous weather out there.  I've been planning on taking the little one to one of our parks, especially with the dogwoods in blooms, for photos. But I think based on her last experience in the grass, she is still not quite used to being in the outdoors yet!

But I have been having fun getting pictures of her at home, and I would love to share them with you

Oh! And I almost forget.  My engagement session of Lori and Jon was featured on the wedding blog Fresh Squeezed Weddings!    If you can head on over there and leave some love that would be great. Lori and Jon are such a great couple, and I am super excited to photograph their wedding in September. I already know that it is going to be a blast!

So that is it for this post. Enjoy the day, buy a ticket! And good luck!!!
