2013 Year in Review {Delaware Lifestyle Family Photographer}

Whew! Here we are again! Closing out another amazing year. Just a few months ago, I was saying that it is taking forever for this year to get over with, and now, here it is.  2013 has been an amazing year for Marisa Taylor Photography. There has been lots of learning and growing. Branding my business, coming up with a pricing structure that works for me, learning to cater to clients even better than I have before, new shooting techniques, finding and honing my style while exploring new styles, it has been a whirlwind. An amazing one, and I do not regret any of it.

Trying to balance raising a two year old, marriage, home life, and a business is tough. Especially when you have an auto-immune disease. But this past year has proven that I can do it.  That I DID do it.  There have been many times when I wanted to quit, when I just wanted to sell of my camera gear and not do it anymore.  Many nights that I have spent editing and emailing, and anguishing over photos.  Many days comparing myself to other photographers and why I am not them.  This was this year that I broke that spell. This was the year that I proved to myself that Marisa Taylor Photography is here to stay.

So with that said, 2014 is going to be even more amazing. I have special collections in store, I want to do more stylized family and baby sessions, as well as continue expanding my fashion brand, Marisa Seasan.  I want to learn more, grow more, and meet more amazing photographers and photograph more wonderfully amazing stories.

So let's take a look back at 2013:

In 2013, I have photographed 35 family and portrait sessions, 3 weddings, 2 engagement sessions, 3 boudoir sessions, 26 newborn and baby sessions, and 1 birth! Not to mention all of the sessions I have photographed of Charlotte, special projects, and my new dive into fashion portraiture. 

None of this would have been possible without YOU.  So a huge thank you to everyone! Everyone who has supported me, everyone who has believed in me, everyone that has trusted me to tell the story of the love that they share with their family.  Please continue spreading the word about Marisa Taylor Photography! The Little Moments

I always have my camera. Always. I learned a long time ago to not just photograph my clients, but to photograph my own life.  Now admittedly, I am not always on the other side of the lens, but I still photograph just for me.  I love collecting little memories to look back on, even when at the time they seem like it's just a blur.

My daughter won't be young forever. No child will. They will get older and grow up, and one day holding their hand will be uncool to them, and they will run to hang out with their friends.  But at the end of the day, they will always and forever be your baby. And you will always and forever be their hero.

Baby Madison {Delaware Newborn & Baby Photographer}

Perfectly round face. Check. Perfectly round eyes. Check.  Adorable smile. Check.  The cutest little cheeks. Check.  Little miss Madison was just too adorable for words, and when I say that she was such a happy baby, she really was.  She was completely full of smiles and giggles, and I just wanted to keep her!  Here are some of the images from her session!

10 Day Blog Challenge Day 10-One Confession {Delaware Wedding & Portrait Photographer}

Whoa! June is here already!  It seems like the year is flying by! We are already half way through. And today, I actually can't believe is the last day of the blog challenge. 10 posts, 10 days (well technically 11 since Memorial Day had it's own post), I did it and it is done :)  So here is my last post for the 10 day blog challenge:  One Confession.  Here it goes.

I know that it seems that I am super confident in my work and always happy, but the truth is I am terrified. Running a business is a risky venture, and while I will always love the art of photography and continue shooting, I still get nervous right before I shoot a wedding or portrait session.  I was told once that when you get complacent with where you are in business, you are not working hard enough.  So I suppose it's a good thing that I am nervous and a bit terrified, it means that I still have that push to want to learn more, create more, and grow more!


Whew! There is folks!


Now that we are in June, there is a new challenge that I am going to be doing. It's the 30 day photo challenge over at The Maternal Lens.  There is a list of subjects to photograph for each day, and you photograph it. I was torn at whether to photograph it through instagram or my camera and post it on the blog. But a friend suggested that I try both!  Gives you two different view points, and it is double the challenge!

Oh! And since June will be a very busy month for me, expect a lot of blog posts! Besides blogging the images from the Photo A Day challenge, I still have sessions to blog! And we are closing on our house on the 16th, moving in on the 22nd, housewarming on the 23rd, and my birthday is the 24th! So yes, June is a going to be a very awesome, and hectic, and busy month for me!  I am only booking sessions up until the 15th of June. That way I can focus on finishing packing and then the move. Then I am taking a break, and booking sessions after the July 4th Holiday!  So if you have been interested in booking, do not wait!!!

Sweet Charlotte Adventure-9 Months Old {Delaware Baby Photographer}

My sweet, adorable baby turned 9 months old on the 24th. Where has the time gone?  She now stands up on her own, walks while holding on to furniture, climbs on things, climbs over there, expresses her dislike by yelling at me, and is becoming her own little person.  It's amazing to watch her grow every single day.  Before I know it, she will be one years old. She will be walking, then dating, then asking for the car, then going to college. I better stop before I start crying over here! 

So for her 9 month-aversary, I wanted to get some new photos of her.  Now admittedly, I photograph her all of the time. But I really wanted some fun photos for her. We put her in her new lace romper from Little Bits Chic, and her headband from Doll Baby Accessories, and *attempted* a photoshoot with her.  With the help of my husband, I was able to get a few shots in. Let me tell you something, photographing my own child is completely different from photographing my clients children! Any who, I plan on getting a canvas of one of my favorite images of her for each month, and hanging them in her room.   Enough of me babbling, here we go!

10 Day Blog Challenge: Day 8-Three Turn Ons {Delaware Wedding & Lifestyle Portrait Photographer}

Good morning, good morning! It's great to stay up late. Good morning, good morning to you! Clearly, I am in quite a musical mood today.  But let's get to today's blog post challenge topic...three turn on's.  I only get three, so I have to think carefully!

1) Intelligence. I can't help it, I love me a smart man. Or just smart person in general.  I think intelligence is a great thing. And if we can hang out and have a nerd off about a particular topic, then you are awesome in my book. Hey, it's how my husband got me :) I totally went after his brains.  Ok, that sounded a bit zombie-ish.

2) Style. I'm not talking about modern style also.  I love historical fashions. So if you can rock the Victorian, Renaissance, or Mad Men look, another A+ in my book!

3) Genuine. I'm only 25, but have been through quite a lot in my time here on earth (that makes me sound like an alien!). But one thing I do love is a genuine person.  There are so many people out there that are ready and willing to take advantage of you, who have the "what can you do for me?" attitude, that I ended up very guarded. It's nice and refreshing to meet someone who has such a genuine personality, that they just want to be there just to be there. Nothing in return except genuine friendship.

10 Day Blog Challenge: Day 5-Six Things You Wish You Had Never Done {Delaware Wedding & Lifestyle Portrait Photographer}

I'm in the middle of packing up the house for our move next month. And of course, I am easily distracted. I just wanted to hop on the computer, check a couple of emails, and hop back off. But then I realized that I should do the blog post now, because I am in for a busy day later.  I still need to do product shots with my daughter Charlotte for a boutique called Doll Baby Accessories, and then I have a Love, Mom session later today.  The weather is perfect! Warm, and sunny, and most importantly...not wet!

Ok, before I start rambling on. Let's get back to the task at hand.  The blog challenge! This post may be a little bit more personal than the others. The topic is: Six Things You Wish You Had Never Done.  Now I firmly believe that EVERYTHING happens for a reason. Whether it is good or bad.  The universe has multiple paths and destiny's for you, and those paths intertwine based on your choices.  So even though there are things that I WISH I never did, I am still glad I did them.


Here we go!!!

1) I wish that I never let Eddie go that day without telling him how I felt.  It was a little school girl crush. We both liked each other, liked the same things, hung out. Well secretly hung out. It was almost out of a movie. Then one day, the last day that I saw him, he told me that he really liked me. It was cute. And then he moved, because he was foster child and placed in a different home with no say so, I never saw him again.  I think it always stuck with me because of how fast things changed. One day we were hanging out, the next day he is miles away, and us being teenagers, of course we had no way of seeing each other.

2) I wish that I had never stayed quiet to the kids that picked on me in school.  They needed to know that their words and actions were very hurtful and damaging. And maybe if I said something then could have turned out to be better people.

3) I wish I had never stopped playing piano. I am HORRIBLE at reading music, and even when I did play piano, I played my remembering the notes, not reading the actual music. If I would have stuck with it, I probably would be awesome!

4) I wish I had never stopped dancing. I loved to dance. Loved it. I used to dance in my room all the time, and took dance classes.  I miss it.

5) I wish I had never...well I am actually drawing a blank here. I've been sitting here for about 10 minutes trying to figure out what to type. Well I actually know what to type, but I think it's a little too personal :) So I will leave it at that!

MegaMillions Fever

So it seems that MegaMillions Fever has hit. To be honest, it had skipped my mind until yesterday when my mother mentioned it. Apparently it is at one of its biggest jackpots ever, 540 million dollars. Yes, you read that right. 540 MILLION DOLLARS (insert Dr. Evil voice and pinky here).  I know that we could all use that jackpot!  So today I sent my husband out with a list of numbers, and we are taking a chance at fate.  We've always had a plan of what we would do if we ever won the lottery, and up until last year, nothing about that plan has changed.  Last year our daughter was born, so now if we were to be so awesomely lucky to win the lottery, her future takes first priority.

And of course I would invest in some new equipment, an awesome studio, travel and take pictures! And donate to my hearts content. Maybe even open up an animal rescue. We shall see!

But in other news...It's FRIDAY! And although it is not as warm as it was last week, it is still some gorgeous weather out there.  I've been planning on taking the little one to one of our parks, especially with the dogwoods in blooms, for photos. But I think based on her last experience in the grass, she is still not quite used to being in the outdoors yet!

But I have been having fun getting pictures of her at home, and I would love to share them with you

Oh! And I almost forget.  My engagement session of Lori and Jon was featured on the wedding blog Fresh Squeezed Weddings!    If you can head on over there and leave some love that would be great. Lori and Jon are such a great couple, and I am super excited to photograph their wedding in September. I already know that it is going to be a blast!

{Baby Portrait-Little Miss Chloe} Delaware Newborn & Baby Photography

It has been a while since I have photographed an adorable little baby other than my own.  And frankly at 5 and a half months, my daughter is pretty tired of seeing me setting up the backdrops and breaking out the camera.  She tries to escape by any means possible.  Even if her only ability is rolling, she will do it.

But luckily, she was spared for one day when I had little Chloe in to photograph her.  She is just so cute and tiny and little.  Two months old and cooing, and gosh, I remember those days!  The cutest thing was laying her in the fur, apparently she liked it, as she kept making this adorable baby faces to me!  But enough chit chat, here are some of her beautiful pictures.
