Guess what's back! {Delaware Family & Wedding Photographer}

Well, technically it did not go away. I gave it a break so that I can spend more time with my family and reflect on my business and focus on the direction that I wanted to go in.  There was a time when I photographed exclusively weddings, and that was up until I was pregnant. Yes, I was photographing weddings all the way up until I was 36 weeks pregnant, crazy I know.  After Charlotte was born, there was much contemplation on whether or not I would go back to weddings.  I mean, I love weddings, I absolutely love them. I love love. I love two people coming together in front of friends and family and sharing their love for each other and vowing to spend the rest of their life with one another.  I love that people choose me to capture their amazing love story.

But from when my daughter was born in 2011, and when I partially gave up weddings, my family and baby business grew. And by grew, I mean it grew a  lot.  I did almost three times as much work photographing families, babies, and kids, and it has been amazing to watch my business grow.  And thanks to so many friends in the industry that are also photographers, I have not only picked my niche, which is babies, families, and kids, but I can still have the opportunity to step outside of that niche and dive into fashion, which has been absolutely amazing!  I have been able to be even more creative and utilize techniques that I have learned from watching other photographers with posing and lighting. Lighting? Yes, you heard right. The girl who vowed to never use studio lights, uses them pretty consistently now.  And the crazy thing is? All for of these images were done in my little home studio.  So lesson here folks is you make due with what you have!

Ok! Moving right a long! Weddings! The love, the dancing, the food, the laughter. I am now accepting weddings for the rest of the year and for 2015. The only catch is that I am only accepting a very limited number of weddings. Years in business, I have learned to take what I can handle and not burn myself out. Plus, I already give my clients all of me during their sessions. I want to give all of me PLUS more to make your wedding images extra magical.

I know that through the years of me being a business owner, I have continued to grow. I have learned different styles of photography, how to pose people, how to interact with crowds, what to expect during weddings, baby sessions and more. I think that experiencing all of these types of photography has helped me to become a better photographer and a better business owner.

{Ink and Pearl} an Orchestrated Stylized Shoot-Virginia Beach

This weekend was amazing.  I headed down to Virginia Beach to participate in a stylized shoot, and to sum it up in one word:  EPIC.  A stylized shoot is basically a mock wedding, it gives us creative folks a chance to get super creative without the stress of a wedding day timeline.  This shoot was gorgeous! It was based off of Miss Coco Chanel itself.  Everything was black and white, and once of my favorite pieces of jewelry...pearls, were center stage.  The weather was perfect.  The home that we were in, was absolutely stunning, I have never seen a more beautiful home.  It literally took my breath away.  I had a great time meeting new photographers, and just letting the creative juices flow.  Here are some of my absolute favorites!

{In: Delaware Bride Magazine}

Another check on my business goal list!  I am so happy right now, words can't even describe it.  Yes, as the title says my images were in the Fall/Winter 2011 issue of Delaware Bride.  Now, when the issue first came out online, I knew that one of my issues was featured in the "Just Married" section, but as I went to pick up a copy at the store today I found that another one of my images was featured on an article about groomsmen and tuxes.  This new discovery made me squeal. Yes, I squealed in public.  So, this was one of my big goals to accomplish, and I am ecstatic about it.  Thanks again to Heather and Mike for being so awesome and fun, and letting me get all creative and crazy on their wedding day for their photos.  You guys rock!

All the small things

So cakes are always an awesome thing at weddings.  They are pretty, delicious filled, calorie packing things of goodness.  Cupcakes, those are great too.  But my new obsession for weddings are...mini-wedding cakes.  I don't know why, but these tiny,sugar filled miniature models are just so cute!  Depending on how many guests you have and the theme of your wedding, mini-wedding cakes can definitely add an extra personalized flair to your wedding reception.

I spent a few minutes perusing the web, and found a bunch of images of mini-cakes for some inspiration.  Take a look!









Just do a quick search on Google and you will find tons of inspiration!

Taking time off

Yesterday was my last wedding until October.  Being that I am due in about 4 weeks, I am now taking some much needed time off before the baby comes.  If you thought photography was hard on your body, you should try doing it while nine months pregnant!  But I do credit shooting weddings in helping me stay active during this pregnancy.  With a wedding close to every weekend, I have been quite active, and my doctor says that is a great thing.   I do feel bad though, I had couples contact me for shooting their weddings during the months of August and September, and I had to turn them down, which is something that always breaks my heart.  Especially when they say how they have been looking for someone with the same personality as them, and how much fun I am, and then I am all sad.

So, what do I "plan" to do before the baby arrives?  Notice I put plan in quotations because I am not one to stick to my own plans typically.  First, I plan to get some serious nesting done. Cleaning and throwing things away!  The mothering instinct is now stronger than it has ever been.  I also plan to get a lot of work for my business done.  New marketing and advertising and such, all things to get me ready for the 2012 wedding season!  I will still be doing family portraits and maternity and babies, but my website will focus directly on weddings, and the portrait site will be re-launched pretty soon.

And of course when baby arrives, I plan to photograph her, a lot.  I really do wish I could have my birth professionally photographed, so I can have one of those amazing birthing videos to look back on....but, we will see about that.  I can say that I am very excited for my little bean to get here.

In the meantime, I have this last wedding to edit, and then I get to, hold on...wait for it...relax! Wow, that's something that I haven't done in ages!  Well relax being a relative term because i'm always up and about doing something, and with a newborn baby, I don't think "relax" will even be a part of my vocabulary anymore.  Then of course, I have a wedding coming up in October, so that should give me plenty of time to "relax".
