Maternity Session: Shasta [Delaware Lifestyle Family Photographer}

I still remembering photographing Shasta's first maternity session when she was pregnant with her and her husband Fred's first daughter Elsa. I was pretty new to the photography game, and was thankful that they allowed me to document that special time in their lives. I have since photographed them quite a few times since then, including their most recent maternity session.

Let me first just say how adorable Shasta is, and how awesome her family is. I love them to death, and they are all amazing people. I am so excited for this family!  Take a look at their amazing studio styled maternity session with a bit of a retro flair:

Postpartum bodies and loving yourself {Delaware Lifestyle Portrait and Family Photographer}

Besides my resolution to blog more in January, another one of my resolutions is to love myself and my body more, and to help women love their bodies also. A lot of women, especially mothers start to dislike their bodies after having a baby. The phrase "having  baby ruined my body" runs rampant most of the time.  But the one thing we must realize is that while having  baby has definitely not ruined our body, it has changed our body.  It grew life inside of it, and birthed an amazing child.

"When I got pregnant for the first time I was 18, fresh out of cheerleading, doing Yoga daily and in the best shape of my life. Though I gained a mere 15 pounds during my pregnancy, my body stretched and pulled in ways it has never truly recovered from and I struggled a lot with the way it looked and felt after Samara was born.

It was partially my circumstances too, my ex husband regarded me with words of criticism despite walking out of the hospital in the same size 0 jeans I’d walked in wearing. I heard my mother complain my entire life about her body and the ways carrying four full term girls had changed it. In fact - I’d never heard a single positive thing about postpartum bodies that I could readily recall.

My self esteem dipped into the negatives, I was bitter in every sense. I had this beautiful daughter and now my body was fucked up. The trade off was a worthy one, but that didn’t make it suck any less."

Mother or not, love your body. It's the only one that way have.

Sharon & Mike's Nautical Themed Maternity Session {Delaware and PA Maternity and Family Photographer}

When Sharon first contacted me about her maternity session, and said she wanted a nautical theme to match the nursery, I knew we were a match made in heaven. I have an obsession with nautical things. Well, I have an obsession with many things to be honest, but a nautical theme is something I have yet to do. So I was super excited to scour the net and Pinterest (of course) for inspiration on what to wear and props.

It couldn't have been a more beautiful day for their session. Not to warm, not too cool, and the wind and light just perfect. I was literally screaming after every shot. And can we say: Baby. Boat. Shoes. I'm dying over here!

I can't wait for their little one to be born and to photograph his newborn session! So enjoy Sharon and Mike's maternity session!

Year in Review! {Delaware Child and Family Photographer}

Whoa! Where has the year gone?  I can't believe it is over so fast. Well first think we survived "the end of the world" YAY!  And now we are about to hit 2013, so exciting.

This year has been so amazing for me and my business, and I am so thankful for all the good that has come my way. Starting with shanging my focus from weddings to families and babies.  Basically, specializing in love and the growing family.  My business has blossomed and really come into its own during 2012, and I am so excited to see what 2013 has in store for me!

So much has happened in 2012. We purchased a house, which meant that I now have an official studio and office space.  Charlotte turned 1 years old. I have watched many babies grow up in front of my camera.  I have watched families add +1.  It's been amazing.

I have photographed births, babies, kids, families, maternity sessions, boudoir, seniors, portraits, and two weddings this year! Again, thank you so much for everyone that has supported me, booked me, referred me to friends, liked my pictures on facebook, all of it! I have canvases of my work in Christiana Hospital and at The Birth Center in Wilmington, DE.  Some of my stuff has been featured on Offbeat Mama and Confessions of a Prop junkie, I am just so amazed.  You are all awesome, and I have no words to say just how much it all means to me.

There are some pretty big changes coming for 2013!  So without further ado, here is the end of the year review. All of the sessions I have shot in 2012!

I am so excited to see what 2013 has in store. I am looking forward to photographing more amazing and wonderful people, making new friends, and loving my family and friends. Happy New Year!!!
